Raster Art

Raster art is artwork that is based on a defined set of pixels, each with a specified color and an overall image width, height and pixel resolution. Rater art is often called bitmap art, pixel art or raster graphics. Raster art is in contrast to vector art.

Raster artwork is typically created by Adobe Photoshop, Sketch, other paint programs or from vector artwork that has been exported to a rasterized format. The following file types typically indicate the artwork is rasterized:

Raster art is not well suited for printing text, illustrations and logos as the artwork loses quality as the artwork resolution is increased. It is preferable to use vector art.Photos are inherently rasterized and can not be effectively converted to vector. When printing images the image resolution should be at least 300 dpi to ensure proper print quality.
